In Conversation with Shola von Reinhold | Luncheon Magazine
In this long-form conversation, published in Luncheon Magazine no. 11, I interview Shola von Reinhold, the author of the award-winning novel, Lote, 2020. During our conversation, we discuss the stylistic, formal, and theoretical devices deployed in Lote alongside photographs, paintings, and film stills pulled from our respective (counter-)archives. The interview touches on a range of topics including archival erasure, the radicality of historical fiction, the politics of ornamentation, decoration and leisure, Black (queer) modernist circles in and around interwar London, West African fractals, and queer futurity. Below is my introductory excerpt to the interview.
